My Story

As a young adult, a couple years out of college, I struggled to understand why I didn’t feel well. I was supposedly in the “prime of my life” or so many people told me. But I knew something was off! I woke up never feeling rested. I needed that second and third caffeine hit in the afternoon. I couldn’t eat a meal without feeling lethargic or getting a headache. I was dealing with horrible acne. I felt like my body was rebelling and when I sought medical advice, I felt brushed off.

With a wave of the hand, I was told variations of: “You’re fine. This is normal.”, “It’s just a phase. You’ll outgrow it.”, “Here, take this pill.”, and “Food has nothing to do with how you’re feeling.”

After years of frustration and feeling powerless, I threw up my hands and yelled, “I just don’t understand!” I felt overwhelmed and lost in a sea of misinformation. Enough was enough. I was motivated to find real answers and make whatever changes were necessary to improve my health!

Reframing My Health Perspective

Taking charge of my health

I reframed my health perspective — I took control of my health (not the government guidelines, not my doctor, not my budget, not my friends or family or well-meaning strangers, and not social media influencers). I was no longer just along for whatever ride my body wanted to go on. I became the driver.

I learned how to research health topics from credible sources. I taught myself how to plan a menu, grocery shop, and cook nourishing foods. I discovered enjoyable, functional movement was more effective than body-beating exercise. I began to prioritize sleep. I honed the skill of listening to what my body was telling me. It was an entire lifestyle change. Now, preparing and cooking delicious, real, whole food dishes is my favorite life skill!

I started to wake up feeling rested. I no longer had headaches and wasn’t caffeine dependent. The brain fog lifted, and I could think clearly. (I was so used to it, I didn’t even know it was a problem!) I didn’t get hangry anymore. I could eat a meal and not feel like I had a brick in my stomach.

My skin cleared up. I lost weight and had more energy. I felt vibrant again!

Others around me noticed these changes. I began to open up and share my journey. I had learned so much and made radical changes in my life, and I wanted to share it in a meaningful way. So, a decade into following a primal/ancestral lifestyle, I went back to school to become a certified Primal Health Coach.

As a health coach, I work with women in their 30’s and 40’s who are ready to transform their lives and rediscover what it feels like to thrive!
